We’re quite sad to say that the Devour Sharp Cheddar Mac & Cheese is pretty disappointing. Of course, it is jam-packed with sodium, at 980 mg. In fact, this is even lower in calories than the Hot & Melty Nacho Mac & Cheese. With 350 calories (90 from fat), this is no diet food, but it’s also nowhere in the realm of some of Devour’s insanely calorie-stuffed meals, like the Deep Dish Three Meat Pizza (at 660 calories). This might have actually been better if Devour hadn’t attempted to add a protein.Ĭalorie-wise, this really isn’t so bad for a Devour meal. Plus, the cheese is watery and the bacon is sort of gravelly. This mac and cheese barely rises above mediocrity. This certainly doesn’t taste as bad as it looks, but it’s not great either. So far, we’ve spent a lot of time talking about how this looks, how it smells, and how complicated it is to make. It comes out kind of a sickly yellow color. It looks less like something that comes out of a spray can once everything’s stirred together, but this meal is certainly not the bright orange advertised on the package. And this scent lingers long after you’re done cooking the meal.Īnd when you start squeezing the cheese out of the packet, it bears a striking resemblance to Easy Cheese. Perhaps that’s perfectly acceptable if you’re a dog, but all of our reviewers happen to be human beings. Now, before we comment on how this tastes when it’s done, we feel it’s necessary to point out that the seasoning smells like Purina Beggin’ Strips. Once this comes out, you’ll want to dump in the cheese sauce and the bacon bits, then give it a good stir. Once that is taken care of, microwave this for four minutes. The image below shows how full your dish should be with water before you cook it. The true fill line on any Devour mac and cheese dish is the bottom one. There’s a line toward the bottom of the dish, and another one toward the top of the dish. What does Devour mean by “fill line?” To make things even more confusing, the package shows the dish with water filled to the wrong line: This has been a cause of stress for many people, we’re sure. You’ll need to take the various packets out of the dish, then dump in the seasoning packet and add water up to the fill line. Yes, the bacon bits are dry and come in their own packet, so they won’t be cooked with the rest of the meal. There’s a dish with some dry noodles in it, a pack of seasoning, a shiny gold packet of cheese, and a packet of bacon bits. So today we’re tying the Devour Sharp Cheddar Mac & Cheese with Bacon.Īs you can see in our image above, this dish contains several components that need to be assembled. Nacho-flavored meals can be a little tricky, and maybe the Hot & Melty Nacho Mac & Cheese was just a fluke. It was complicated to make, and it didn’t come out tasting very good.īut because we love the brand so much, we decided to try some more of their boxed macaroni. Unfortunately, our first foray into Devour’s non-frozen line (the Hot & Melty Nacho Mac & Cheese) didn’t go so well. So we were pleasantly surprised to find that Devour is making more than just frozen meals these days. It’s best to store it in an airtight container or freezer bag to prevent freezer burn, and don’t forget to date the container. We love Devour frozen meals here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, and we especially love their macaroni dishes.
